Tinted Souls
A woman walked up to a building labeled Cinq Kingdom Maximum Security Prison. She seemed alien in such a place as filthy and dingy. Her silken aqua dress flowed about her ankles. Her silver heels clicked briskly on the charcoal colored flooring as she strolled past the multiple cells that held the inmates. She stopped however when she came to one cell in particular.
“Duo?”
The man that was sitting cross-legged on the only cot in the room, looked up. When his hollow indigo eyes met the woman’s turquoise ones, recognition, and a common knowing passed between them. His long waist length chestnut hair was pulled pack into a sloppy braid, and his long bangs obscured most of his chiseled face in locks. His neon orange ‘uniform’ was as grimy as he was and the only words she could find to describe him were ‘scruffy looking’.
“Well, if it isn’t the Princess! How y’ doin’, Ojousan?” He spoke out half -heartedly to her in mock cheerfulness. A sinister smile twisted on his pale lips and a wicked glint tickled his empty eyes.
“Fine, Duo. You?”
Duo Maxwell looked down at his callused and grubby hands. When he decided to speak, it was barely above a whisper and spoken low and gruff. She even had to strain her ears in order to hear him.
“That’s a rather stupid question, ‘Lena.”
Lena, or more correctly Relena, looked at her feet and whispered, “I know, Duo.”
Relena heard a slight ruffle and looked up to see him approach the bars. As he arrived, he reached out to grab two of the bars in his large masculine fists. He sighed and she thought she actually saw something in his dead eyes.
“I don’t ever ask much from you, ‘Lena, but…” His voice suddenly changed edges and tones. “Come closer.”
Perhaps, she trusted that man too much but she still did his bidding and with their faces just a few inches apart, he breathed out the words she was not expecting, “ ‘Jousan, get me out of here.”
