Chapter Eight: The Arrow of Zeus

Heero flew alone, in the back.  Everyone knew he was the best flier and that out of all of them, he could actually win this war.  He put his oxygen mask on.  He thought of the girl he had seen.
What was she?  She was too beautiful to be a human.  He wondered if she was related to the gods.  That would make sense.

I wonder why we are really at war.  I thought that it would be between the nymphs and the gods, so how did humans get involved?  I know that a nymph was caught with a human after she was married to a god.  Ugh, nymphs.  Players, that's all they really are.  They say they love one, but are seeing another.
"General, you're drifting."  The voice of Lara, head of the Black Ravens, brought me out of my trance.
"Er, sorry.  Thinking."
"People don't think enough these days.  I'm glad someone still does."    I smiled.
"Thanks Lara."
"Oh my!  Did I just hear that?  General is being civil to someone!"  Laughs could be heard over the radio.
"You're pushing it Davies.  I have the best tracking system of all of us and I can still pinpoint your exact location, and I also have the best guns, so I would shut up unless you want to see my bullets and you want to kiss the waves."  Everyone shut up after that.
"Jeez, General, are you PMSing?"  I snapped.  I locked on to Davies' position and fired my stunning ray.  The jet's controls started to go out and the jet started to slowly drift towards the water.
"DAMN YOU YUY!"
"That was a warning shot.  Next time, I shot to kill.  There are no rules out here; the only rule is survival.  But you will listen to me or you will sink into a watery grave.  I'm in a bad mood, I didn't get any sleep, and you're just making my headache worse.  And it's General Yuy to you, Private Davies."  He was a captain.  He just pissed me off so much that I demoted him.
"I will kill you, Yuy."
"I heard that!"  I shot up above him and came hurtling down at 700 miles per hour.  I heard the confused shouts of other pilots and then Davies screamed.  His plane crashed into the sea.  I saw him float to the surface a flip me off.
I circled and waved cheerily.  One of the smaller flagships picked him up.  I contacted the Hornet.
"Hornet II, Duo are you there?"
"Right here.  What?"
"Davies and I had a slight tiff."
"Define slight."  I grinned.
"Oh, his plane's in the water and he's on his way back."
"Heero!  That's a half million dollar plane!"
"Yeah yeah.  Do me a favor.  Make him walk the plank!"  I finished laughing insanely.  I went back over the radio to address the other pilots.  "Let that be a warning to you all."
We went back to flying in silence.  I listened to the breathing of my fellow pilots.  What I had said was true.  There were no kings, no queens, no presidents, no law at all because of the gods.  I guess I was the most powerful human in the world as of now.
"Raider Fleet is coming into view!  Holy cow!  Look at the damage!"  That was David.
"Cows aren't holy."  I said softly, earning a few laughs.  "Everyone, basic battle formations!  We don't know where they will strike next!"  I took the lead.  This is when we all had to become a unit.  I looked down and saw the boomers (nuclear subs).  I looked up and said a silent prayer.  I don't know why, the gods were against us.
"There!"  We looked down and saw a small army of mutants!
"What happened to those things?"  Lara cried.
"The gods are getting something else to fight their war."  I muttered.  One of the mutant ants, yes ants, they were about eight feet tall and had guns of all types, looked up at us.  I had a distinct feeling they could see through the chameleon skin.
"Eagle One, fox two."  I released a missile.  It flew down and slammed into the ants.  I saw a few go flying and then I saw the arrow too late.
"AAAAHHHHH!!"  I screamed and jerked the joystick left as hard as I could.  The arrow was like a bolt of lightening and I knew it must be the Arrow of Zeus.  It followed me.  I had never been more frightened in m entire life.  I could almost see my mother...
She was calling out to me.  "Aiden, join me!  It is wonderful at the bottom of Olympus!"  I screamed again and directed the nose of the Titan down.  If I was going down, I was going down in the water, not by some wretched arrow.
"GENERAL!!"  I heard someone scream as I hit the water.  I drew my Glock and tried to fire the cockpit window open.  'Forgive me old friend.'  I felt the water rush in.  It was freezing.  I ripped myself from the seat and struggled to reach the surface.  I twisted and turned until I slipped out of the cockpit.  I swam as fast as I could.  When I was about twenty feet away from the Titan, I turned.  I saw the arrow hit it.  The Titan exploded.  I never felt the tears streaming down my face, as I was knocked unconscious.

"NNNNOOOOOOO!!!!"  I felt the concussions of the explosion tear through my heart, even though I was safe on the Hornet II.  I saw parts of the Titan float to the surface.  Heero's gun floated up.  I was screaming and crying at the same time.
How could he be dead?  I thought he was invincible, I thought he was immortal, I thought we could live forever.  How could he be dead?  How?  Why?  Why was my brother dead?  Why was my Heero dead?!

Ok, here's part nine.  It is very short.  Please review!

Chapter Nine: Sorrow

Duo was screaming and beating the console.  Becky held him while she called off the attack.  "The Raider Fleet is done for.  They are too strong.  Return to base!"
The planes veered off.  The aircraft carrier turned and put its engines to maximum and they were tearing out of the graveyard for the Raiders and the General.
Becky slowly started to rock back and forth.  Duo sobbed onto her shoulder.  She was crying too.  She watched in horror as ten out of the remaining fifteen squadron members exploded.

ONE HOUR LATER...

Everyone stood on the deck.  No words were spoken, yet all was said.  Duo turned to face the quiet crowd.  Everyone had a glass of the finest wine.
"Now, we will drink to them, all of the men of the Raider Fleet, and General Aiden Cloud, you knew him as General Heero Yuy."  Silently, everyone raised their glasses and swallowed.
Duo turned his glass over and placed it in front of a picture of Heero.  He turned to the others.  "Pray tonight.  I don't care whom you pray to, just pray.  Pray that we win this war, before all hope for mankind is lost."
Everyone slowly walked away.  Duo turned back to the picture of Heero.  He took out a picture of the Titan and placed it next to his.  "Rest in peace, my friend."
