Part1:The Accident

Heero's POV
Preventers and that stupid Duo I thought in the shadows
while watching a
certain young woman, honey blond haired minister that had
captured my heart.
No! Wait I have to concentrate on protecting her nothing
more... I hope Heero
thought to himself. Some day I'll tell you how I fell
about you Relena I
swore to myself and I quietly whispered the name of the
one person I cared
about for so long "Relena..."

Relena's POV
Heero...Relena
thought"Miss Relena?" "Huh.. What?"I asked after being
pulled from her
thoughts. "Miss Relena do you wish for me to drive you
home?""It is late"Her
secretary Nicole said. I glanced at the clock. 10 at
night already Relena
thought. "No,no... I'll be fine Nicole""I'll just walk"
"Don't worry, I
don't live too far just 5 blocks away"I stated to my
secretary."Um... Okay
Miss Relena" and Nicole left. I need time to think. As
soon as Relena
left the building she became lost in thought. She was thinking
about her
life Heero and everyone else and also her health... Relena was so
lost in
thought to see Someone lurking in the shadows watching her
carefully.I
wandered toward the street aimlessly not really noticing anything
around me.
I didn't see the car coming and suddenly I felt a pair of arms
encircled
around my waist and a sharp pain over my ankels making myself cry
out in
pain and soon I was lost to dar! kness.

Heero's Pov
I watched Relena's expression change and
could tell she was deep in
thought. I watched her and just marveled at her
beauty. Suddenly I saw a car
speeding torwards the distracted minister. I
ran at break-neck speed to reach
her and I encircled her waist in my arms
and pulled her along with me.
Fortunately for me I tumbled far away enough
from the car, but half way
through the process Relena broke from my
grasp and I heard her small cry of
pain and looked to see the car run over
her ankels.I quickly went to her aid
and saw her black out. I quickly rushed
her to the hospital cursing at myself
to be so careless and letting Relena
get hurt like that.
The doctor came out an hour later explaining to me
that she has both feet
broken and would be fine in a couple weeks, but...
"But what?!I yelled to him.

Part2:The
Secret

Bright...very
white...everything is white...Millardo? Heero? Anyone?"It's
alright
miss"What?What's going on?Relena opened her eyes to see a very
worried nurse
looking back at her."It's alright"She said "The doctor will be
here shortly,
but for now try to get some rest""Umm... alright, but what
happened?"Relena
asked slightly confused why she was in the hospital."Just
get some
rest...your doctor will tell you what you want to know"said the
nurse.
Relena stared at the nurse for a while. The nurse was very pale and
was
looking at her with the most sympathetic expression. Relena watched the
nurse turned to leave. After the nurse left Relena was about to fall
asleep
when she heard a familar voice yell "What?". Relena looked at her
door and
started to drift asleep thinking, Who's voice did she just hear a
few minutes
ago?

"What!?" Heero yelled and then realized he yelled tried to stay as calm
as possible. "Tell me what else is wrong"Heero said praying it was nothing
serious. The doctor turned pale for two reasons one, he was afriad
what the
young man who brought Relena in would do if he found out what
secret Relena
was hiding and two, he was worried of how bad Relena's
condition was.
"Relena...Relena has both of her ankles broken and her feet
are fractured,
but that's not I'm worried about. Her bones will heal quickly
but..."the
doctor hesitated and Heero was becoming more and more
impatient."What is it
that has worried you?"Heero asked hoarsely afraid of
the answer he would
get."Well Relena..."the doctor shook his head and
said"Relena has
Lukemia"Heero was paler than the doctors coat when he said
those words. The
doctor noticed this and said"We found that she had lukemia
during our time
trying to give her pain killers and decided to! do a blood
test just to see if
everything was alright."the doctor looked at Heero.
Heero was silent, Heero
was staring at the ground. I'm dreaming...Heero
thought.This is just some
damn nightmare. The doctor started to continue
again. "We suspect that she
got it from when the building exploded and she
was exposed to the radation
from the bomb. You pilots didn't get it and to
me thats a mystery but Relena
has it and the worst case I've ever seen."the
doctor finished.Heero stood
there dumbfounded by everything he just heard.
It was all at once and had a
huge impact. Heero finally looked up and
asked"Is there anything you can do
to help her?"Heero asked in his usual
monotone voice but had a hint of
concern when he asked the question. The
doctor shook his head and
answered"No, all we can do is wait until we find a
matching donor, but for
now you may see her.

Relena opened her eyes seeing Heero's staring directly at her. See was
very glad to see him and very shocked that he was here until she realized he
must have been the one who had tried to save her. Relena gave Heero a
warm
smile and said" Thank you for saving me Heero""I thought I'd never see
you
again"Heero stared at her and said in an emotionless voice"I didn't do a
very
good job because your in the hospital"Relena smiled and said "At least
I'm
alive and not in life support" Heero paled again and Relena gave him a
confused look. "Relena why didn't you tell anyone?"it was Relena's turn to
turn pale and gave him a nervous laugh and asked"What are you talking
about?"trying to look anywhere but Heero's eyes. Heero put his hand to
Relena's face and turned it until they had eye contact and asked"How
long?"Relena sighed in defeat and said "Three months ago...when I started to
miss a lot of meals and fall asleep during my! meetings, even the really
short
ones.""I went to the doctor and found out and told him not to tell a
soul"at
this point tears started to fall from her eyes and Heero wiped them
away and
Relena pulled Heero and hugged him and to her surprise he hugged
her back.
Suddenly the door opened and in came a very pale and angry
Millardo and the
scene before him did not make the situation any better but
did make it
worse."HEERO!!!!!!!"Millardo yelled.

The Possible Mircale
Part3: Just A Story

Great...Just what we need, a brother who can't control
his temper, to
help make the situation even worse... Heero thought still
embracing Relena.
"Millardo, please calm down. I don't need you..."Relena
was then interuppted
by VERY loud voices outside of her hospital room and
the door bursted open to
reveal even more pale faces of the other gundam
pilots and the girls (Sally,
Dorothy, Hilde, Cathrine, and Noin).
Relena sighed and was about to say
something when Duo blurted out a
question asking"It's not true...Right?"
Relena asked in a confused tone and
asked "What's not true?" Hilde looked at
her and said "Your lukemia! Your
brother called us up and told us you had
lukemia!" Relena nodded and looked
at Heero to help her out. Heero looked
back at those sea green eyes
and nodded. Heero gave everyone a 'Relena is
not in the conditon to
answer any questions, so leave or I'll make you leave'
look at everyone.!
Everyone gave Heero their own glare but they all sighed in
defeat and asked
if they could see her tommorow. Heero glanced at Relena and
she
nodded. Everyone said good-bye, but Millardo stayed a little while
longer glaring at Heero while holding his sisters hand. Finally Noin dragged
Millardo out and Millardo said"Better take care of her, Yuy or else..." but
trailed off as Noin pulled him out of the room by his arm.
The
doctors had tried to get Heero to leave while telling him visiting
hours
were over, but only got a gun pointed to their heads as a result.
Heero watched Relena's beautiful features glow in the moonlight and
without
knowing it, Heero was stroking her soomth cheek. Relena opened
her eyes and
turned to look at him. Heero watched as Relena's hand
reach to touch his and
she placed a gentle kiss on the back of his hand.
Heero leaned down to place
a kiss on her forehead and whispered "I
love you Relena". Tears welled up in
Relena's eyes and she whispered
back to Heero"I love you too Heero". Heero
looked at Relena and smiled
a geniune smile and embraced her tightly. Relena
smiled for a moment
and frowned and asked in a depressed voice"I'm going to
die aren't I?" Heero
was very suprised and said "No!No Relena your not going
to die. Don't ever
say that again!" Heero said trying to hold back! his tears
and hugged Relena
tighter. Relena sighed "I hope so Heero. But I think we
might need a
mircale". Heero suddenly looked at Relena and said"Wait here
for a
second... I'll be right back"Relena watched Heero leave, confused by
his
actions.
Heero came back 15 minutes later with a pack of 5 inch
square paper
along with another paper with instructions written on it. Heero
saw the
puzzlement on Relena's face and chuckled softly. Relena looked
at her still
confused on why he had those objects with him. "Heero what is
that ""It's
origami Relena". Relena has heard of origami but never tried it.
"Relena, I'm
going to tell you a story I heard when I was young". Relena
watched intently
and asked"What kind of..."she trailed off but Heero put a
finger to her lips
and said " It may be useful to know this story so just
listen."Relena nodded
her head and waited for Heero to begin.

No way this can be happening!
Duo yelled. "Calm down Duo" "Will ask
Relena tommorow and see what's really
going on. She can't have...no she
can't... Relena's my friend...she just
can't.." Hilde trailed off and started
to break down right there. Duo
embraced her and told her " It's okay
Hilde."Duo said trying to sound
cheerful."Relena's a strong fighter...she
won't give up on us don't worry."
Duo said tears streaming down his face. She
just can't...Duo thought
embracing Hilde tighter." I..hope...so Duo"Hilde
said between sobs. Duo
looked down at her and said"I hope so too".

"Poor Miss Relena" Dorothy
said. Quatre looked at Dorothy and nodded his
head, still dazed by the
sudden burst of bad news. "I hope Relena pulls
through this. She can't
die not now." Dorothy started to sob on Quatre's
shoulder and said"I hope
your right Quatre...I don't need to lose anymore
friends." Quatre looked out
the window and thought Neither do I.

"I wonder why Relena would keep something like this a secret?"Cathrine
said tears running down her cheek. Trowa put his arms around her and said"
Mabey she just didn't want to worry anyone""Mabey..."Cathrine said. I hope
she turns out alright... Trowa thought holding Cathrine tighter.

"How could Relena not tell
anyone about something this serious?"Noin
said. Millardo looked at her
and shook his head and said "I don't know but
she better pull through so I
can yell at her for not telling me" they both
smiled briefly and
thought...She will pull through...please pull through
Relena.

" There was something called
World War 2 long ago and they were testing
neuclearer bombs and bombed
Japan. It effected many people in the area,
,most died our got
lukemia." Heero heard Relena gasp at the thought of so
many people dying but
continued "The story goes that there was a girl who
knew a legend that said
'if you make a thousand paper cranes you will get a
mircale'she did her best
but didn't finish and past away and her classmates
finished the rest of the
crane for her." Heero looked up at Relena and saw
tears welling in her eyes
and one fell down her cheek"How sad"Relena
whispered."It is but mabey we can
try our luck and make a mircale to help
you" Heero said brushing the tear
away. "Here let me help you with one to get
you started""Ummm...Well
Idon't....umm.okay"After 5 minutes Heero had taught
Relena how to make a
paper crane. "For the mircale to happen you have to make
all thousand by
yourself Relena " ! Relena looked at Heero and nodded.
Heero had
eventually fell asleep on her lap. Relena sighed while watching
Heero sleep,
seeing how peacful he was made her hope grow stronger. Relena's
gaze
lingered on Heero before looking at the origami paper. Relena reached
for a
single sheet and started to fold the paper and whispered to herself
after
she was done" One crane down..." and set it on the table by her bed and
turned to stroked Heero's bangs back out of his face"999 to go"and took
another sheet.

Part4:I'll be your friend

Heero awoke to see
at least 10 paper cranes on the stand next to the
Relena's bed and the 11th
crane in Relena's lap. It was only partly done
since Relena was, right
now, fast asleep. Heero took the crane from Relena's
lap and set it
down on the stand. He started to stand up and looked down at
his
watch. It was 8am. Heero new that the others would be here soon.
Heero
frowned. /What am I going to do now? Mabey I'm dreaming. No...I
just have to
except the situation / Heero stared at Relena's sleeping
form. Heero decided
to search for some kind of information to help solve
this situation on his
lab top and started to leave but placed a kiss on
Relena's forehead before
turning to the door. As Heero opened the door
Duo, along with Quatre, Hilde,
Dorothy, Cathrine, and Sally all falling face
first on the ground with Trowa
and Wufie standing by the wall. Duo was
about to say some! thing but was
quickly cut off by Heero's death
glare. "I'll be right back." Heero growled
to them. Duo was going to
ask why but Heero had already left.
Milliardo and Noin arrived a
short time later and all greeted each other
with "Hello" but nothing more.
They were all to worried to start a
conversation. They waited
silently for Relena to wake up and explain what
was going on. Relena
woke up at around 8:15 am to see 10 faces staring at
her. "Goodmorning
everyone." Relena said nervously. "Tell us everything."
Milliardo said
sternly. Relena took a shaky breath just before the doctor
came in.
Relena let out a sigh of relief. "Please doctor, can you tell my
family and friends the situation I'm in?" the doctor nodded and urged the
others to follow. They stayed until Relena said "I'm really tired.
Besides...the doctor can give you better details." she informed them.
"I
need some rest right now" she lied. They all nodded and
followed the doctor.
They all said farewell and left with Noin pulling
Milliardo who was
! lingering behind.
Relena watched the other go to
the doctors office. She waited until
everyone was gone out of site.
Relena took her long coat and put it on. She
looked down the
halls to make sure she wasn't seen.
She slowly crept down the
halls and stopped when she heard crying in the
room at the end of the hall.
Curiosty getting the better of her she peered
in and saw a girl around
9 sobbing softly. Relena stepped in the room and
crouched before the
girl and asked "What is wrong little one?"The girl looked
at Relena startled
by her sudden presence but began to sob again and on to
Relena's shoulder.
Relena held her and rocked her back and forth trying to
calm her down.
When the little girls sobs stopped and turned in to silent
tears she
sniffled "Thank y you for for givvving me a a huggg misss." Relena
smiled
and wiped the remaining tears. " My name is Relena. What is yours?"
the girl sniffled and said "Hope Holan." Relena sat besides the girl and
asked " What is troubling you? Why are you in the hospital?" Hope
stared at
her and more tears fell down her check. "My mo motherrr and bestt
fr friend
and listened as she continued." Mother and my friend
Casey and I went in to
this building.... when we heard a big booming
sound and I was in this room
and when I asked about Casey and my mom
they said they were..." Hope began
to sob uncontrollably. "It's
alright. You don't have to tell me the rest. I
understand." Relena
said while holding hope in her arms.
After a while Hope began to talk
with one another and started to become
closer to one another. Then at
around noon Relena heard quick footsteps and
worried voices. Relena
stiffled a chuckle and looked at Hope. "I must be
leaving now but I'll
come back, mabey tommorow alright?"Hope nodded. "Bye bye
Relena"Hope said
and watched Relena slowly leave the room and trying to avoid
all the running
people outside the hall.

"So, what's
wrong with Ojousan?" Duo nervously. "As you may have heard
Relena has
lukemia."the doctor stated.They all nodded their heads
sorrowfully.
"Will she...die?"Duo asked very softly. "the doctor shook his
head and
said"Relena already has a doner."They all sighed in relief and
started
cheering for joy(Duo the most). "In fact are doner is outside right
now." Duo stopped his joyful antics and asked"Can we than..."but trailed off
when Milliardo shoved him to the ground and raced for the door. /I have to
thank who ever it is for saving my dear sisters life/ Milliardo thought. But
as he opened the door, there stood Heero smirking at the 10 gawking faces.
"YOU!!!!" exclaimed Milliardo. "Hn..." was the only reply they got.
"Yes.
See there Heero, I knew you would save the day."Duo remarked and
slapped
Heero on the back Heero glared at him and turned around. "I'll
take care of
her. Y! ou all can come back when the operation is set."
Heero said in his
usual monotone voice. They all tried to argue (with
one mad Milliardo
shouting at the top of his lungs) but only saw Heero's
"Do-what-I-say"glare
and had no choice but to wait.

The next day Relena was hugging Heero very
tightly saying things like "I
love you so much!" and "Thank you Heero!".
Heero just smirked at her and
kissed her head lightly. "It will
be alright now, my angel." Relena was
taken by surprise at his angel remark
and her eyes widened when his lips
brushed hers. Relena smiled /so
affectionate when were alone/ Relena thought
with a dreamy look on her
face." The opperation is later today in the
afternoon." Heero said releasing
his hold on her so he could see how she
looked after hearing this.
Relena nodded her head, but then she snapped
herself from her dream
state. Heero stared at her slightly confused but also
heard the loud
worried voices and people shouting.
They stepped outside to see
many doctors and nurses rushing outside
towards a room down the hall when
Relena realized "That's Hopes room..."

Epilogue:Save A Life, Take A Life

/Hope.../Relena thought as she raced down the hall. Relena tried
her
best to reach Hope's room, but Heero grabbed
Relena's arm and said
"Relena. We have to go..." "No! I have to make sure
Hope is okay!"
Heero frowned and said in a more
serious tone "The others will be here soon
and the operation will..." "We can
have the operation any time I still..."
Relena was
cut off by Heero who said "No." Clearly and shakly, or did
she imagine it.
Relena stared at Heero, his eyes showed her the fear
that flashed through
him. Relena stopped resisting and wondered/What
are you afraid of Heero?
What's wron.../ Then suddenly it hit her.
Relena realized that Heero was
worried that she might die sooner than
they thought. He was afraid to lose
her. Relena looked back down
the hall. Everything was once again calm and
the doctors and nurses
went back to their normal routine. Relena sighed and
said "I guess
I'll visit her later." Heero nodded and they both walked
towards the
operating.

"What's taking so long!" Duo whined. Hilde glared at him and
told Duo
"Be patient. It's only been 10 minutes." All the others
agreed with Hilde
but Duo keept up his whining. "Maxwell will you just
SHUT UP!!!" Wufei
yelled after hearing Duo whine for at least 30 minutes.
"It takes time
Baka!" Wufei added get very annoyed. "But what if
something went wrong and
Heero and Relena are dieing and crying for help or
something?" Duo
protested. Wufei rolled his eyes and Hilde
pulled on Duo's braid very hard
while the others, who seemed a great deal
more worried about the operation to
care about anything else happening.
"Owwwwwww! Hilde what was that fo...."
But Duo was cut off when the
doctor came from the operating room. Milliardo
stood up and asked "Did
everthing go alright?" the doctor smiled and nodded
"They are still sleeping
right now but, They will wake up in, at least a few !
hours. So no
need to worry and you shold come back tommorrow since it is
late."
Milliardo and the others nodded. "So..when do they come back?" Duo
asked. " 2 to 3 days at the most. We need to make sure both of
them turn
out alright and of course a few check ups after that." They all
nodded and
left knowing that a huge burden has been lifted from their
shoulders and for
the first time since Relena's secret, they had a good
night's rest.
****************~One Week Later~*****************
Relena smiled and lifted the assorted bouquet of flowers to her nose
and
smelled the sweet aroma. /White roses...For friendship and love/
Relena
thought happily. She paused a moment Heero stopping with her down the
hall of
the hospital. Relena smiled at Heero and gave him one of the white
roses.
Heero who smirked back took the rose and pulled Relena for a tight
embrace.
Relena smiled contently in Heero's arms, then took his hand
and entered a
room only to find it...
"Empty?" Relena looked around
the room /But this is Hope's
room...unless.../ "Heero." Relena clled to him.
Heero looked up at her.
"Mabey Hope has checked out she is living with
an aunt or her grandparents
and mabey we came..." Relena trailed off when
she saw a nurse. Relena ran
toward the nurse and asked "Exscuse me
miss. What happened to the girl in
this room?" Relena pointed towards
the room she was just in. The nurses smile
faded into a frown and answered "
She passed away this morning...We couldn't
find a doner in time.I'm very
sorry." The nurse then left slowly seeing how
pale Relena became.
"...too late."Relena said softly, completing the
sentence she had said
before. Heero looked at Relena and watched as she came
towards Heero
and wraped her arms around him.
******************************
Heero held her close and walked outside, but before she left she had
found one of the origami papers she used to make those cranes in her jacket
pocket. Relena remebered that she had only one crane to go, but didn't
finish it because of Heero as her doner and leaving the hospital.
Tears fell
down Relena's cheek as she began folding the crane. Heero
stood by watching
her and then she whisperd " I'm sorry Hope... I should
have finished the last
crane and whished for you to regain health.
Good-bye Hope...I hope you are
happy where ever you are and I hope you
find happiness there." Relena smiled
at Heero and walked toward the car and
she paused. Relena walked back to
Hope's favorite place, which was by
the tree in the front and placed the
white roses on the ground. She kneeled
down, took the roses, bunched them up
and planted them in the soil and
then placed the paper crane in front of it.
! ;Heero watched this and
smiled. Relena walked back to him and they drove
home and Relena took
on last look back at the hospital.
After the two leave giggles can
be heard nearby. "Come on Casey!" A girl
in a pink dress called.
"Okay Hope!" A girl in a blue dress called back.
Both girls
giggled and looked at the small memorial Relena made. "It'
beautiful!" Hope
nodded. They both smelled the flowers, marveled at the
paper crane and
suddebly disappered. Relena got out of the car. Suddenly a
small
wind blew past her that sounded like giggles, then another blew past
her.
Relena stared out across the road and for a moment she thought she saw
two 9 year old girls waving and smiling at her and disappeared. Relena
just
smiled and said " Mircales are possible."
