Disclaimer: I wish I owned it.
Authoresses Note: Ah, if you're still here, then that means you weren't
totally disgusted with me giving Relena two kids and being pregnant. And, of
course, this is a Relena and Heero romance story, so this part has a little
romance, I guess if you could call it that. Kinda sorta, not really.
Read and find out what I'm talking about.

Title: Finding Somewhere
Part: Two
Flashback:
They were so close. She wished it could be like this forever, the
two of them caught in the moment, leaning on a desire so strong, so strong that
she felt her body would be ripped apart. She could feel his breath on her,
could feel the warmth of his body, as they stared eye to eye. Blue unto brown.
Her whole body tingled as he murmured a couple of low words. To last in this
moment forever!
Then it was gone, reality kicking in, as he pushed her away from him. She
felt her emotions cry out, angry at the loss of the desire. And then came
a worry and fear, as she realized what he was going to do, what he was bound to
do.
He would fight for her. For her ideals. For her world.
She watched him leave, feeling totally helpless. And she hated to
fell helpless.
His last words chimed in her head, loud, demanding to be heard.
Trust me.
End Flashback
"I want to go out and play!" Little Matthew exclaimed.
"I want to go to Ruins!"
Rose peered down at the energetic little boy over her spectacles.
"Such a loud voice." She complained, lifting herself up from the
rocking chair. Tiger leaped off her with an indignant meow. "Its
raining, Matthew. And don't ever think of going to the Ruins."
Matthew pouted, seating himself on the rug with a plop. "Can I go
play when it stops raining?"
Rose blew out her breath in a lazy sigh. "Yes, I suppose so."
Raine giggled from behind them. "Rain! Raine!" she chimed.
"It matches! Can I go outside?"
Rose rolled her eyes. "No, dear. You'll catch your death of
cold. Now I think its time for some children to take their naps."
A squabble of protests rose up at this. "I'm not sleepy!"
declared Matthew in a no-nonsense tone. "Nether am I!" Raine joined
her brother.
"That's enough out of you." Rose ushered the pair to the
nursery. "Come now, before _I_ fall asleep. Taking care of you two is
a handful."
Raine and Matthew giggled at the thought of a snoozing Rose, her mouth
hanging wide and dripping with drool. Then they allowed themselves to be
lead away, promising that they'd get outside one way or another.
Relena took long strides down the hall. Her mind was elsewhere - to
tell the truth, she felt slightly guilty at her and Yuy's fight. How long
had it been? A week? Yes, that sounded right. She shook her
head with self-aggravation, blowing out a sigh.
She listened to her feet beat against the wooden floor. It gave her
a small measure of comfort. Bump. Bump, bump. Bumpdee bump.
She let out a little laugh.
"Relena?" Relena felt her heart stop; her laughter came to
a standstill. Oh god, not him again.
"Yes, Travis?" she turned to face him, watching his expression
carefully.
He was always so sickeningly happy. She shivered.
"Travis, what do you want?" she asked quickly, very to the
point. She backed away from him; unfortunately, he chose to come closer.
He shrugged. She was leaning against the wall now, like a cornered
little thing, as he took a couple steps forward. He looked at her with
want, forcing her eyes down. "Travis, leave. Now."
He blinked. "Why?"
Relena clenched her teeth, her fists balling together. She winced as
his hand reached down and tilted her chin, drawing her eyes to his. She
squirmed a bit, wishing she could find her voice.
"What're you doing?"
Travis dropped his hold, and the two spun around. Heero.
Relena gasped, feeling very embarrassed. For a moment there was stony
silence - then Relena caught her breath and turned to Travis, glaring at him.
"Leave." She hissed at him.
But -" he stuttered for a moment, but one of Heero's famous glares
cut him off. He moved away, leaving Heero and Relena alone.
"Thank you." Relena told him quietly.
"It's stopped raining." Relena whispered the words to herself.
She stood in her private study, presumably alone.
It was lovely. Of a deep innocence draped in a solitude and peace -
yes, that was what a rainbow was. A wonderful dance of colors that left
you staring and wide-eyed. She sighed, watching it, wishing vaguely she
could remember the five - or was it six, colors of a rainbow.
"That's a nice rainbow." Chimed a deep voice behind her.
Relena gasped. She had thought she was alone.
"Do you always have to do that?" she teased him as she turned.
Heero shrugged, still watching it, studying it, through the window.
He came a couple of steps closer. "What lies on the end of a
rainbow?" he asked her, his eyes twinkling.
Relena cocked an eyebrow. "A pot of gold?" she guessed blandly.
"Somebody once told me it was the fountain of truth."
"I never heard about that."
Heero shrugged. He was at her side now; their shoulder's barely
brushing.
"She said -"
"She?"
Heero nodded. "She was -" his voice broke off quietly.
"She's dead." He summed up shortly.
Relena nodded. "What did she say about the fountain of youth?"
she peered curiously into his eyes, wondering vaguely what was wrong with her.
Why was she always giving them her heart like this? So foolishly - so
eagerly, as if asking to be hurt. Relena shivered. Her own thoughts
were much too cold.
"She said that if you went to the end of the rainbow you would stay
young forever. That eternal youth would be yours. But she also said
something about that being more of a blessing than a curse."
"I wonder what's really at the end of a rainbow," Relena noted
quietly.
"A blessing, or a curse?"
Matthew peered quietly over his bed, down at his sister. "It's
stopped raining." He informed her. He pointed his finger and wagged
it at the window.
Raine looked up from her tea party, setting down Mr. Teddy harshly.
"Really?"
Matthew nodded. "Really."
She grinned at him, jumping up, nearly bouncing up and down with
excitement. "Lets go play!" she exclaimed. Matthew smiled,
getting out of bed with a little plop.
They passed devious smiles, nodded at each other, and tiptoed out of the
nursery room. In the playroom Rose was sleeping in the rocking chair,
exactly as they had imagined her, with her mouth wide and all.
They stifled giggles.
Perfect.
Once they were outside, Matthew immediately had his eyes set on one side
of the grounds, while Raine had another idea.
"Ruins!" Matthew declared, pointing his finger.
Raine shook her head, her hands on her hips. "Pond!" she pointed
in the opposite direction.
"Ruins!"
"Pond!"
Matthew let out a long sigh, seating himself on the grass. "I no move
until we go to Ruins!" he told her in a final tone.
"Rose told you not to go to Ruins."
Matthew blinked. "So?"
Raine rolled her eyes. Little brothers were such a pain! "Well,
so did Mommy!"
Matthew crossed his arms and pouted, unconvinced. Raine tapped her
foot impatiently. "Ponds!" she hissed, trying again.
Matthew shook his head. "Ruins." With that he got up and began
to walk away, leaving Raine dumbstruck.
"I'm going to tell mom!" she called after him. Matthew
shrugged and continued walking.
Grrrr. Stupid brother. Thought Raine to herself. She
gritted her teeth. "I mean it!"
"Fine!"
"Fine back!" With that Raine headed off to 'mommy', and
Matthew to the Ruins.
Heero wondered who used to live in the wreck. He wondered what they
were like. Were they old? Young? Did they have children?
He shook his head at all the possibilities. As an assassin, he was
constantly all over the world. He had seen all the sights, but it was only
now that he pondered on them. Only now that he thought about all things
that had been and could have been.
His eyes flew over the scene, as he walked past it. He had excused
himself from Relena's study about an hour ago, and now he was on his way back, a
new idea forming in his mind. He felt confidence that Relena could help
him with it, and eagerly anticipated getting there. At least, as eagerly
as Heero ever did, which wasn't big. But for now he had become interested
in the ruins.
It was a pile of rubble, really. Pieces of wood lay scattered
around, followed by great lumps of stone. He frowned at the wreckage.
No one had ever even thought of cleaning it up or anything. There was only one
building that looked even vaguely intact. It seemed to be some form of a
dilapidated stable.
He eyed it carefully, his brown hair blowing in the breeze. It was
as he studied this particular building, that he heard the noise. A child's
laugh. Heero felt his breath tighten. He had heard that laugh before
- it was Matthew, Relena's son.
Shit. That was no place for a kid.
Heero changed into his soldier mode, pulling his hands out of his pockets
and beginning a run.
Damn him if he let Relena's kid get hurt.
Flashback:
A shower of sparks went up as the two light swords clashed together. The
boy forced his strength into his blow, and his enemy recoiled for a moment.
So it had all come down to this. All the fighting, all the death,
all the misery, all just for more of it. For a last battle. He
dodged an attack narrowly, firing one back. His enemy let out a deranged
yell of rage, and a shock of pain coursed through the boy as a blow landed home.
He was covered in sweat. His eyes were narrowed, his jaw set in a
firm frown. The boy winced again as another attack hit him. He never
winced, just as he never smiled.
"What do you fight for?" his enemy screeched at him.
He didn't know. What did he fight for? For humanity? For
life? He didn't reply, for he didn't know the answer. What did he
fight for?
For them?
"What do you fight for?" the enemy asked again, spinning as the
boy attacked.
For her.
