Falling Apart: Chapter 4
"Hilde," Relena whispered passing a note to her.
"Yeah," Hilde replied looking dazed, but she scanned the letter anyway.
"Relena, are you sure you want to do this?" she questioned looking concerned at Relena. Relena simply nodded.
******
"Duo?" Hilde whispered. Duo sleepily woke up with a grunt as she shook him, but went to sleep again. Hilde looked annoyed as she punched him on the back, making him jump up and cry out in pain.
"What?! I’m trying to get some sleep here! Heero’s already banging me up with his guns! Sheesh…why do people have to be so rude," Duo pouted sitting on the couch.
"Huh? What did you say?" Hilde mocked smirking as Duo made a cute pouting face.
"Duo…Relena wants to know," Hilde stammered looking serious again.
"Now?" Duo exclaimed waving his arms in the air.
"Yes, now," Hilde mumbled looking at the floor as Duo fell backwards twitching.
"Oi! But there’s so much history to recover!" Duo cried out with a sigh of exasperation as he dropped back onto the couch looking pooped.
"Well, she wants to know now and we’re her friends…so we’ve got to. She’s going to find out sooner or later," Hilde sighed. Duo starts sobbing comically on the couch while Hilde tries to keep her placid face, well not really. The doorbell interrupted their moment as Hilde slapped Duo’s head to get him to behave himself.
"Hello Relena," Hilde greeted, "It’s nice of you to stop by."
"Hey Jousan!" Duo chirped swinging Relena in the air.
"Hey Duo! Um…I got kind of bored at my place and I thought I’d invite you guys to eat lunch with me if you’re not busy," Relena offered with sparkling puppy eyes. Duo’s stomach growled at the mention of food while Hilde and Relena laughed.
"I guess that’s a yes from Duo," Relena chimed. Hilde nodded as she grabbed both of their coats and headed for the car. As the trio got into the car a dark figure hid behind the fence grinning an evil smile.
************
Relena held the brown bear to her side as she remembered the ‘interesting’ evening they had. Duo practically ate five large dishes! They left the restaurant in total humiliation, because Duo had rice and food all over his face, how typical. At the thought, Relena giggled; they always found a way to make her smile or laugh. Although there was always a void that she felt that no one can heal, she didn’t understand what it was really though. It was emptiness, she guessed all of her friends had a ‘boyfriend’ and she was just a tag along. She was determined to learn her past, because…she didn’t understand the way things were. ‘Heero’ never talked to anyone yet his best friend was a chatterbox. Even the name ‘Heero’ just felt familiar.
A tear gently fell from Relena’s cheek, as she thought more about Heero and how mysterious he was. Why was she crying she didn’t understand as more tears streamed down her cheeks and landed on the brown bear. Outside on the balcony, Heero watched her with guilt in his heart. Maybe it was for the best if she never remembered him. He watched her until she fell asleep he had vowed once to protect her and he failed. This time he won’t, he’ll see to it that she will have a wonderful life and a pain free one too. The moonlight shined on her angelic face showing the beautiful outline of her form. How he longed to touch her face or to just see her smiling at him again.
Everyone hated him, but she was always the one who gave him a second chance for everything, even for love. Now, that chance was gone because he didn’t take it soon enough. Why was always the hard way for him to achieve anything? Easy was not expected from his life. If only he’d held his temper of Wufei his Relena would still be laying there. Stupid Wufei he just had to pick a fight about ‘injustice and women’, he said that Relena was weak and that he was weak for falling for her. Idiot, look who won in the end. The only problem was…she lost her memories…
