Dead while Living

Chapter 6

Jade walked to the jail wing to talk to Odin. She heard crying in the back cell and she went there to see Odin in a corner.

"Odin." She said in a quiet voice. He looked at her in death glare.

"What?" He said quietly.

"Do you want to talk? I know we aren’t friends anymore, but we were both in this to kill your son." Jade said.

"Yes we were you, traitor. Was this all a game to you, don’t you understand how much I want to kill that boy." Odin said getting up.

"I understand, but it wasn’t right. At first I was on your side, but now it feels so wrong. I wasn’t always here for the money, even though that is why I thought I was here. I was here to kill him, because I believed you. I believed he killed my sister, Marie. But I was wrong and you are wrong also. They are in love just like Marie and you. Would you like it if someone tried to break your relationship? It is even worse if your father is doing it and you are just learning what love is." She said, talking from her heart.

"No, I wouldn’t like it. But I wasn’t wrong, he killed Marie." Odin said and sat on the bench close to the bars. Jade shook her head and smiled.

"No, Odin. Even though you didn’t mean to, you killed Marie. And she killed herself. You both did it together. But Marie doesn’t blame your son, because she knows he didn’t do it. You tell him he is a mistake, his mother hates him, he killed her. All the things opposite of what she told you to do." Jade said trying to keep her tears in.

"I broke her, promise." Odin said while tears fell down his face.

"Odin, what did you do to your son? What did you do, before I met him at the training base?" Jade asked kneeling down.

"I hurt him, I hurt him so bad." Odin said through tears.

Odin telling Jade what happened.

"When he was a baby and cried I would leave him in a dark room. I let him stay in the dark room, crying until he would shut himself up. I would pick him up and him in my arms when he was asleep and stuff a bottle in his mouth. I would enjoy every minute of it. And he looked so cute and innocent, peaceful while he was sleeping. But I couldn’t stand that so I would wake him up. If he were ever happy, I would just ignore him. He looked so cute, when he pouted and then started to cry. I hated him still; he looked so much like his mother. But then so much like me. I knew he would be a teenager girls would hang around with, if he had a perfect life. He would probably have a good life, which was wrong. I made sure he didn’t have a good life. I used to hit him all the time, hurt him when he was 2 or 3. I never enjoyed this torment I gave him. Fire burned inside me, when I heard him cry or scream in pain. When he turned 4, I took him for a walk. Then left him in the middle of the sidewalk alone. He looked around for me and he kept on yelling,

"Daddy, where are you?" He was so scared. People walking past him and then an old man with a metal arm came. He came and said,

"Are you lost, little boy?" And Heero nodded his head. Then the man held him in his arms and took him somewhere. I followed them until they made it, to a base. I said,

"Wait." And the old man turned around.

"That is my son." I said and he sighed. I walked up to him and reached out for Heero to come to me. But he just held onto the all man, looking at me in horror.

"Stupid boy." I said and grabbed him.

"Do you always hurt your son, like this." The old man asked as I dropped Heero on the floor and he started to cry.

"Yeah. But it is none of your business, how I treat my son." I said in a calm voice.

"How old are you, sir?" The old man asked. I smirked at that comment and said,

"I’m 20, old man." He looked at me in shock.

"Aren’t you to young to have a child? Where is the mother of this child?" He asked.

"Hey, stop with all the questions. I’ll answer anyway. He killed his mother when he was born and we were 16 at the time. I am too young to have a child, but he was a mistake anyway." I said, not even noticing Heero had run behind the old man.

"Oh." The old man said.

"What is this base for?" I asked.

"It is for training. We need children to train early for the war, which will be with the colonies. Later on." He said in low voice. I nodded and smiled. ‘This was what I could do, to hurt him.’ I thought.

"I want him, to train on the highest level." I said. The old man looked at me, terrified.

"That would be suicide missions and using our new machines, called gundams." The old man said in shock. I put my hands on my hips and nodded.

"So." I said. He nodded.

"Fine, let’s go inside." The old man said. I nodded and he opened the door. Heero ran inside and looked around. I stared at him in disgust then at the doctor. That when I saw you Jade. You looked at me and frowned.

"What are you doing here?" I said. And you said coldly,

"I am training in this facility." Then you looked down at Heero and smiled. He stood right under you looking at you. Then you picked him up and whispered something in his ear, then he smiled and giggled. Then he whispered something back and you looked at him shocked. After that we both watched him train. We watched him hurt his body. I yelled at him telling him to do better and you just watched. We watched him leave in his mobile suit. His eyes cold, showing no emotion. He was dead, I knew I killed him and I showed myself enjoying it. But when I got drunk, it was because I felt bad. I just wouldn’t admit it to myself. When he self-destructed I smiled on the outside, but mourned in the inside. I was proud that he had saved the earth and the colonies. He was a hero, just like his mother named him to be. But the torment wouldn’t be over; I had to fulfill my mission to make him stay dead. So I kept in touch with you and offered you money to bring in prostitutes to rape him. Everything was perfect, absolutely, ‘perfect.’ When it was his first time. I stood there and watched him go through it. He never opened his eyes and he never cried out he was so calm. He was dead. But then I remembered watching him through the war and at the end. I saw him being held in that girl’s arms. I knew she was his savior. The dove of peace, she is the one who was in my way. I always wondered why she would care for him. If it was out of self pity, but know I understand it was love. I cursed my son for being so handsome, to be so attractive to girls. I had no control over that and I made that girl pay by bringing her here. I have failed my mission and I shouldn’t live, because of it. I shouldn’t live for hurting my son, you, and that girl." Odin said broke down crying. Jade looked at him trying to feel all his pain. It was too much to bear.

"Odin." She said.

"I remember what I told your son, that day. That day you brought him to start training."

"I said, "Heero, you look just like your mother. She was beautiful, you know. And you’re going to grow up to be handsome." Then he giggled. And he said,

"No, I’m dead and alone. So a dead person can’t look handsome. That is what Daddy told me. Except mommy will always be beautiful and I saw her before. She smiled at me and whispered, ‘I love you.’ But I don’t know what that means." And I never was able to talk to him after that." Jade said looking down.

"The game is over. We can’t save your son, but I believe that girl can. Relena will show Heero peace. " She finished.

"May I talk to my son." Odin said, quietly. Jade nodded and opened the door. Odin walked out and she led him to the hospital wing. Relena was sitting up on the bed, looking at the bed next to her, where Heero was. Heero was still asleep. Relena looked at Odin and Jade when they walked in. She looked at Odin with rage and anger in her eyes. Then she looked at Jade and said,

"What is he doing here?" Jade looked at her and smiled.

"He wants to talk to Heero." Jade asked.

"No, he will hurt him, again." Relena said quietly.

"No, don’t worry. He won’t." Jade said quietly. Odin took a chair and put it by Heero’s bed. He sat there looking down at his son. ‘Heero you look as innocent as you were when you were a baby.’ He thought and smiled. He put a hand on his forehead and then held his hand.

"I love you, my son." He said quietly. Relena looked at him shocked and Jade just smiled. Heero groaned and opened his eyes slowly. Odin smiled at his son and said,

"Do you forgive me? I am sorry for everything I’ve done." Heero looked at him and looked at him semi-shocked.

"My mother said, I should. So I will." Heero said and Odin looked at him shocked.

"Your mother never hated you, Heero. I’m sorry for saying that. Everything I said was a lie. I’m sorry for killing your mother. I never meant to. Your mother killed herself and I killed her also. It was mistake. You were never a mistake." Odin said, letting his tears fall.

"It is okay." Heero said and he sat up. Odin got up and walked over to Relena. He put his hand on her cheek, then kissed her on the cheek.

"Take care of my son for me. Help him live, I trust you. My daughter, please love him." Odin whispered in her ear, so no one except Relena could hear. Relena looked at him shocked, and then she looked into his eyes. She smiled then nodded and said,

"I promise." He nodded and walked to Jade.

"They can leave now. Oh yeah." He turned around and looked at Relena,

"If you were wondering why no one was looking for you, Relena. I left them a message saying you were on vacation." He finished and left. Relena sighed and said,

"Oh." Odin walked into his room and put on the camera. He stayed there for 2 hours, till he saw Heero, Relena, Jade, and all the girls leave the underground warehouse. When they all left and left in their cars. Odin sighed and smiled,

"Finally, it’s over. I fulfilled my promise to you Marie. Merry Christmas, I hope to see you, soon." He whispered and pressed the self-destruct button to the warehouse. So that it blew up, with him inside.

"Heero, may you live on a good life. I love you. May I rest in peace." He whispered as the flames surrounded him and he left the world. His dead soul had become reborn as he went to heaven, to live with his love, Marie. Now, he wasn’t dead while living. He will rest in peace, forever.
