1:Inadvertant disclosure
It had been a year since
everyone had found out that Relena, perhaps, wasn't what she seemed. That she'd been lost at birth, stolen in
confusion at the hospital, raised by an assassin, and forced to play pacifist
for two years while her twin sister, Dawn, a true pacifist and daughter of
Peacecraft raised by Darlian, was lost.
And at the time all was revealed it came as a great surprise to everyone
that she, Relena, was not in fact attracted to Heero Yuy at all and was more
afraid of him than anything else for some indiscernible reason. It seemed as if she was confident in the
fact that he wouldn't hurt her, and trusted him with her life, but she wouldn't
let him near her emotionally. She also
seemed to know much more about him than anyone else, including himself, did,
but didn't seem to want to disclose any information.
After much testing it was proved
that Relena Peacecraft was a work of art.
She was in top physical shape, she was limber and fast, she could fire a
gun, disguise what she was feeling, mask her consciousness, and surprisingly
pilot a mobile suit. What she seemed to
excel at was sword fighting and the art of manipulation.
In place of Heero's "never
show any emotion" she had Relena's "show false emotion all the
time" so it was near impossible to discern what she really felt about you
or certain circumstances. This was, by
no means, entertaining and most unsettling.
And since she held everyone at arm's length, no one could get in and
figure her out.
"Relena." Heero said,
nodding to her as they passed in the hallway.
"Heero." She said
looking up at him, since he was a great deal taller than her.
"Paperwork?" she asked.
"I can handle it." he
replied.
"Suit yourself." She
said, shrugging. Then she continued
down the hallway to her office.
Relena was now a Preventor and
she was, much to her chagrin, Heero Yuy's partner. This was because they could almost read each other's minds when
on the field, which meant, of course, that single words could communicate an
entire sentence, in the field.
"Ah," she murmured
despondently, "Little sister sure does love politics." She reached for her cup of coffee with a wry
smile on her face as she read the headlines that appeared on the screen of her
laptop.
Relena called Dawn her little
sister even though they were the same age, and in some ways it was right. Except for the whole amnesia episode that
threw Relena into the spotlight, she had only known comfort and
compassion. Actually, she’d been in a
comfortable place even during the amnesia thing. A family had taken her in, and when she one day woke up and
remember where she was, she wanted her brother, and that’s who she went out to
find. Cinq Kingdom records showed that
there had in fact been two Peacecraft girls and so, the whole thing was sorted
out, but not without the expected upstart.
Thankfully, the superior political and people skills of the Peacecrafts
smoothed everything out in only… three months.
Dawn was an excellent
politician; her only problem was the inability to use force. She could ask, she could coax, but she
couldn’t force and that, if you could consider as such, was a problem.
“Now where is that damn San Jose
riot file?” Relena pressed a button on her intercom and said, “Paging Heero
Yuy, Heero Yuy, please report to Ms. Craft’s office, thank you.” She didn’t have a secretary, hated them in
fact. She also went by “Craft” because,
as Noin remarked, it described her perfectly, an exceptionally crafty
Peacecraft who didn’t believe in peace at all.
“What?” Heero said, as he
entered her office.
“Gee, not the least bit polite,
nothing like your brother.” Relena stated offhandedly, then she clamped her
hand over her mouth as she realized what she’d just disclosed.
Heero stood stock still.
“You did not hear that.”
Heero blinked. “Bro-ther?”
“Forget it, I already told you
some, might as well tell you the rest.” Relena said, rolling her eyes, “Ok, you
have a brother, he’s one year older than you, his name is David, he’s nice,
kinda like Dawn, and he was living with your parents on L1 but he moved to
Earth after they died and joined the Preventors he’s one of the best. He and my sister are,” she cleared her
throat, “evidently, as I found out last week, and have been, on extremely
friendly terms… He’s also her personal body guard.”
“Why didn’t you tell me any of
this earlier?” He asked angrily.
“Because…”
“I mean what, did you think you
could just keep this from me forever, that I wouldn’t care or something?” He
was now fuming.
“I didn’t tell you because I knew
that if you knew he existed, and anything bad happened to him, you’d blame
yourself for it, and you and I both know that you do not need
that!” She shouted. “Now where is the ******* San Jose riot file?” she asked.
Heero glared at her and said,
“In your drawer.”
Relena opened the drawer and… ta
da! There was the San Jose riot file.
“Thank you.” She said, and then
softening, “We’re all having dinner tonight at Chez Paris, just me Dawn and
David, you’re welcome to come, if you’d like.
David knows so much more about your parents than I do, and he knows
almost nothing about you. You were lost
in hospital confusion the same night I was.
My sister and I were born on L1 because my father was paying a visit to
the family Heero Yuy and he and my mother ended up getting stuck there for
eight months because of my mother’s pregnancy and the fact that it was almost
impossible to get a shuttle the night I, we, were born there was a bombing
somewhere and the hospital was crowded, everyone was running around confused. You were picked up by Odin Lowe, and I was
picked up by Hugh Lawrence. There is a
lot your brother would like to know about you.” She said, so quietly he barely
heard.
He shifted uncomfortably and
then asked, “What time.”
2: Dinner
Heero Yuy had changed a lot
since the Mariemaya coup. He’d
disappeared for two years and had come back… after finishing highschool. And, coincidentally, Relena made her shocking
statement one full day after he’d joined the Preventors. He was now nineteen and, even though he was
an adult, as Ditzy Sarah from school would say, “Like so totally not able to
deal.” He hadn’t been on a date since…
well, he’d never been on a date. That
didn’t matter though. He still lacked
greatly in the social skills department and was a bit nervous about meeting his
only family.
“Hey, I know you don’t need to
be nervous.”
He looked up toward Relena. She walked up to him and straightened his
tie. “You know how my sister is the
sweetest thing on earth? Your brother
is kind of like that.” She said with a small smile. “You don’t have to worry about him not liking you either.” She
added. “Now come on, we’re going to be late.”
Heero was driving since Relena’s
car was in the shop. Remember the riot
in San Jose? They both climbed into his
black 204 Treadline (Hey, remember they have colonies do you seriously expect
the Benz to still be in style uh no) and drove off. When they got to the restaurant, David and Dawn were already
there.
“Lena!” Dawn exclaimed, as she
and David got up.
“Sit down, sit down.” Relena
said.
Everyone sat down. Heero was sitting with Relena at the right
and David on the left. Relena had Dawn
on her right, and Dawn had David on hers.
“David, I’d like you to meet
your brother, who doesn’t know his name so I’ll tell him now.” Relena said with
a smile “Ok then, David, this is Ryan,
Ryan, David.” Relena said.
David opened and closed his
mouth a couple times, “That’s my little brother.” He said softly. He froze.
And then without warning nearly tackled Heero.
